Homeschool....it's for the birds

"A wise old owl sat in an oak; The more he sat the less he spoke; The less he spoke the more he heard; Why aren't we like that wise old bird?"

We are focusing on birds as part of our nature study this season. To facilitate this the children constructed bird feeders. The bird feeder was made out of an old half gallon milk container and a bamboo skewer. Once constructed O added leaves, bark, and flowers for embellishment

We also have a terrible mosquito problem in this area. To help battle these pests Dad and the children built a tree swallow birdhouse. The tree swallows preference for insects makes him a welcome guest in our yard. A single nest of swallows eats up to a thousand insects a day. Here is my proud boy.

I love the birdhouses - we are also studying birds for Nature Study this season and plan on building a birdhouse and a bird feeder. I think we'll do recycled milk carton ones - what a cool idea! :)
